Sustainable IT: resource efficiency as the key to green digitalization

IT expert Konrad Pfeilsticker from Envite is all about sustainable IT and resource efficiency. “IT is a key driver of digitalization, but it also consumes immense amounts of energy,” says the green IT specialist and expert in sustainable computing at the Greentech.LIVE Conference in Hamburg.

Konrad also provides exciting insights into how companies can increase resource efficiency in IT and minimize their ecological footprint.

Why resource efficiency in IT is so important

Data centers around the world consume enormous amounts of energy. According to a BITKOM study, the power consumption of data centers in Germany could double by 2030. This development conflicts with global sustainability goals and the urgent need to reduce CO₂ emissions.

How can companies implement more sustainable IT solutions?

Modern software should not only be powerful, but also resource-efficient. This includes optimizing code and algorithms to reduce computing time and memory consumption. As well as efficient use of hardware by minimizing redundant processes.

In addition to software, hardware also makes a significant contribution to energy efficiency. The most important measures are avoiding overloading, but also reducing idle times, using energy-efficient hardware with lower power consumption and using green electricity for data centers. Companies should develop strategies to operate more sustainably in the long term.
